Nashville Is Reads Pics

Jon Bergey, my brother David, and I recently posted issue 4 of Nashville Is Reads (www.NashvilleIsReads.com). It took us a couple of days. These are pictures from day 1. Jon took pictures, I taped, and David hammered.

Matt Jasper's "Psalm" was first. Posted in the back yard of Leah Rose Retirement Center.

This is me (Peter) hanging Kathy Cottle's "Tea at the Bookstore" on top of a ton of staples stuck into this fence, behind Fido coffee shop.

Notice the remnants of past flyers. Hopefully it doesn't mean someone comes around to tear them down.

Kendra Grant Malone's "i care very much about many things" on the back of a "No Parking" sign. I'm barely tall enough to read it. Sorry, short people.

I like the Hick Idiot sticker at the bottom right.

Mike Topp's poem at "Dragon Park." There's a tunnel that you can crawl through just under those stairs in the background. We were going to put this poem inside it, but there were 3 or 4 people laying inside and giggling. So we settled on this light pole.

Then we took a beer break at Sam's, talked about where to go next.

We decided to go downtown. Here's me with Josh Maday's poem on 5th Ave. N. We plastered it onto the Tennesseean newspaper rack, which was a bad idea. It was gone the next morning.

Here's Larry O. Dean's "Confused About Vitamins" in Printer's Alley (the end of the alley without the stripclubs and karaoke bars).

Matt Jasper's "Messages" on 2nd Ave. N.

Made sure it would stay up, wrapped tape all around the tree. We used a roll and a half of tape.

Here's David adding some nails to Gary Beck's "42nd Street Remembered." It's at the end of Division St. Behind it you can see a bunch of billboards by the interestate, and you can hear trains in the distance. Makes for a good read.

Winner of 2008 Poetry Chapbook Contest

The winner is Curtis Crisler and his chapbook Spill. We asked Eugene Gloria to say a few words about why he chose this collection, and here's what he had to say:

"Curtis Crisler's Spill is a mixture of uncompromising sincerity and urban surrealism. These poems testify to the complexity of a multicultural landscape, offering up a vision in "loops and gossamer, dangle vision." Crisler's poems are soulful and ardent testimonies of a man paying attention. His poems are songs both political and personal."

Nashville Is Reads Issue 4 is posted around town. Some of the poems have been torn down...the ones we know of are marked with blue--the rest are red. Still, reds may or may not be there. They will be re-posted periodically and the map will be updated.

Keyhole Press 2009 Full-Length Releases

Keyhole has several full-length releases scheduled in 2009.

First up is William Walsh's Questionstruck - A Collection of Question-based Texts Derived from the Books of Calvin Trillin.

Then Stephanie Johnson's fiction collection, One of These Things is Not Like the Others and a fiction collection by Shellie Zacharia, Now Playing.

More info on each release will be available soon.

We've made a new spot on Keyhole's main page for your literary news. Anyone is welcome to submit any news they feel like sharing, about themselves or others, so long as it pertains to literature. If you have a book (or know of a book) that is coming out, if you've got a story up at another journal that you're proud of, repost the info on Keyhole, get some extra traffic.

In order to prevent spambots, you'll have to sign up for an account to submit news. Once your account is confirmed (via email) just sign into the site, click the submit link that appear in the right sidebar and select "Lit News."

Or if you prefer not to do all that, just send an email to info@keyholemagazine.com with "News," and we'll post it for you.
